The Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Product Quality (LANUPRO) is part of the Department of Animal Production (Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium;). The Faculty of Bioscience Engineering offers academic education and services that support innovative applied scientific research with living matter as the central subject. The teaching and research integrate biological, physical and chemical sciences with engineering techniques, with objective the sustainable production and processing of plant and animal raw material and the management and protection of nature and the environment. The activities of the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Animal Product Quality involve fundamental research related to the feeding of ruminants and monogastric farm animals.
A second aim is the optimisation of sensory quality as well as health value of animal foods. Both areas are integrated to a considerable extent. Animal nutrition research pursues increased knowledge of the physiology of digestion and of animal metabolism for use in the optimisation of production processes as well as of product quality. Projects related to animal product quality attempt to gain insight in the various factors determining this important characteristic.
